Book Summary:
Risa will go to any lengths to avenge her mother’s murder—even if it means making a pact with the most evil vampire she’s ever met. Lethal and powerful, Madeline Hunter is leader of the vampire council, and will put her resources behind finding the killer—for a price. The venerable vampire requires the assistance of Risa’s psychic powers. Quid pro quo.

Someone—or something—is targeting the elders of the local council, cursing the immortal vampires to rapidly age, sink into madness, and die. Risa must track down the vengeful being responsible. But Risa’s father, a rogue Aedh priest, also enlists her in a dangerous mission. And not even the great Madeline Hunter may be able to protect her from the shadowy forces that desire nothing less than Risa’s destruction.
My Thoughts:
Darkness Rising is the second installment in the Dark Angels series featuring Half Were, and Half Aedh Risa Jones. Risa has been lured into working with Madeline Hunter which only leads to further problems for Risa and her best friends Iliana and Tao.
Risa is also still trying to find the keys that her father claims are needed in order to close the gates to heaven and hell permanently so that nothing escapes. Her father, naturally, becomes more agressive to the point of using bodily harm.
Risa is also given an ultimatium by Hunter; find the person responsible for draining several vampires of their life force or be terminated on sight. Yeah, I truly hate Madeline Hunter right about now because of all her threats towards Risa and the fact that she totally disses Rhoan and Riley's assistance.
I DO NOT TRUST LUCIAN. I am here to say that he is a scoundrel that is only out for himself, and not helping Risa and Azrael prevent the gates from opening up and allowing demons to flood into this plane. He appears at different times, then disappears just as quickly. Uhm, hello McFly? Are you serious Risa in trusting this asshat? I don't care how hot and bothered you get by his sexiness. He CAN'T BE TRUSTED!
Now, Azriel, the reaper linked to Risa's Chi is all that and a box of chocolates. I enjoyed the part where he gave her a sword of her own named Amaya that was made in demon fire and becomes a part of her when she gives it her blood. I just wish that Risa would wake up and smell the coffee and realize that something is truly not right with Lucian especially since he all but admitted that he, as a former Aedh, wants revenge against his former brethren who striped him of his wings. Then again, Arthur loves to throw monkey wrenches into her stories and 3 way relationships as well, so, I shall reserve my final thoughts and judgements on the whole Lucian/Azriel/Risa relationship triangle until after Darkness Devours releases in June 2012.
Kind of surpsed that the first two books were released relatively quickly, but now we have to wait until June to see what happens next?
Last commentary for now; Can we put the whole Riley Jensen characters to rest for good? They had their time and series. Let Risa and the new characters have their time in the sun. It's alright that they are mentioned, or appear now and again. But, they shouldn't play a larger part in this series
