Review: Half-Blood by Jennifer Armentrout

Half-Blood is the true first book in the Covenant Series. This book picks up weeks after the events of Daimon (a short story that I would recommend reading), in which Alexandria (Alex) Andros went on the run after Daimons killed her mother. She believed that the only place safe for her is the Covenant.

Alexandria is known as a half-blood because her mother was a pure-blood Hematoi, (born from two gods) while her father was a mortal. Alexandria and her mother Rachelle left the Covenant years ago because of something an Oracle told her. In order to keep this future from happening, they ended up moving from place to place to keep away from those who wanted to bring them back and face a bleak future in which Alex would end up as a mindless servant to the wealthy and privileged Hematoi like her step-father.

The story is an interesting twist on Greek Gods and their offspring’s, and the battle against Daimons and whether or not Alex is actually one of the chosen one who can end the battle once and forever. The story has been compared to the Vampire Academy series in the whole forbidden love, and student ends up attracted to the untouchable teacher who is a pure blood and any union will end up in Alex’s future coming to an abrupt halt. Maybe, maybe not, but I think I will continue to read to find out where Alex ends up.

Alexandria is an interesting character in that she puts herself through some trying and hard times after the events surrounding her mother’s "death" and subsequent return to the Covenant where she was once a star student, but a troublemaker as well. She knows that unless she tightens her attitude, she will most likely become a sex servant to her step-father who she absolutely hates with a passion for the rest of her life. However, she refuses to give up who she is and uses her snarky attitude and feisty kick butt attitude to challenge anyone who gets in her face.

I actually liked Aiden, and yes, he has been compared to the other hottie in Vampire Academy. Even though they are from different backgrounds, they are truly meant to be together and hopefully the storyline will eventually lead to that awareness for the rest of the cast and crew as well.

I pretty much hated Seth from his introduction and pretty much all of his antices, until he does something totally surprising in the end of the book to help Alex when she needs it the most. Guess we shall see if this 3-way triangle that has both of these men training Alex turns into something fun, or annoying. Here's hoping for fun.
